Customize your own OCYC 2013

What’s the Big Talk about this OCYC competition? 

Calling all creative minds! Ontario Coptic Youth Convention organizers are seeking YOU to jump-start next year’s convention! This is the chance you have been waiting for—customize your own, fun, spiritually engaging convention, and we will reward you with awesome prizes! Not only this, your ideas will actually be implemented for OCYC 2013! Hundreds of Coptic youth will get to attend a convention with the theme and design of your choice!

You get to choose everything for next year! We are giving YOU the opportunity to choose the theme, craft a catchy theme phrase, and break down all the topics!

You can enter this competition as a team or an individual. You have to submit the following components:
  1.       An APPEALING issue for all Coptic youth. This will be the THEME of the convention.
  2.       A catchy phrase expressing the theme that will ATTRACT youth to the 2013 Convention.
  3.       A befitting Biblical Verse.
  4.       A brief breakdown of 4 topics (for 4 separate sessions)

What happens if my idea is chosen for OCYC 2013?

The Grand Prize Winner will:

1. Have his or her ideas implemented by the OCYC Steering Committee for the 2013 Convention
2. Receive a spot on the OCYC Steering Committee!
3. Receive one of the cash money prizes/gift certificates allocated for top 3 submissions ($500, $300 & $200).

Evaluation Criteria

1. APPEALING ISSUE

• issue captures a spiritual theme which is not to wide or too narrow
• issue is relevant to the Coptic youth who are of high school and/or university age.
• issue is appropriate to the dogma and beliefs of the Coptic Orthodox Church
• issue is capable of attracting a wide youth audience

2. CATCHY PHRASE
- phrase shows creativity
- phrase employs at least one of the following literary devices:

• word pun (or play on words)
• rhyme
• symbolism
• imagery
• wit/humour

3.       BIBLICAL PHRASE

• Biblical verse fits (a) with the theme of the convention and (b) with the catch phrase of the convention
• Biblical verse is appropriately cited
• Biblical verse is preferred to be from KING JAMES version
• Biblical verse can be integrated into each one of the 4 proposed session topics

4.       SESSION TOPICS
Each session topic must be relevant to:

• the biblical verse
• the theme and catchy phrase of the convention

Each session topics will provide the presenter with:

• an opportunity to develop a cohesive presentation
• comprehensive coverage of the theme from different angles
• progressively entice the audience to attend all sessions

Prizes
1st place: $500 gift certificate
2nd place: $300 gift certificate
3rd place: $200 gift certificate

Contest Rules
1.       All proposals must be submitted to the OCYC Steering Committee on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Please submit your proposals in the drop box below by 4 pm.
2.       All proposals must be authentic. NO plagiarized proposals will be accepted.
3.       All proposals must not exceed 2 single-spaced pages in length.

All entries become property of OCYC and will not be displayed at the convention unless permission is given. By submitting an entry, the author relinquishes any right to the entry submitted. Entries will not be returned to their composers. The committee reserves the right the absolute right to reproduce any entry in any format. By submitting an entry, all composers are deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these terms.
